Apply to the Harvey Schwartz Housing Policy Education Fund

In honor of our former board member Harvey Schwartz’s dedication to public affairs, New Hampshire Housing started the Harvey Schwartz Housing Policy Education Fund to help individuals from the nonprofit and public sectors access training and education.

Who is eligible? Individuals employed by non-profit organizations, as well as employees, appointed officials, and volunteers of county and municipal government.

What are the guidelines? Housing must be the principal focus of any training or educational opportunity for which an applicant is requesting funding. This may include housing policy and planning, housing development and management, housing financing, or housing and services. Only applicants that can demonstrate a direct relationship with their ongoing work will be considered for funding. In addition, applicants must certify that they have sought other funds and that funds are not available to them for this purpose. Examples of training opportunities include, but are not limited to the American Planning Association National Conference, the National Rural Housing Conference, the ULI Terwilliger Workforce Housing Center Annual Conference, the National Community Land Trust Network Annual Conference, the National Housing Conference Annual Policy Symposium, and the NCSHA HFA Institute.

How much funding is available? A maximum of $1,000 per event, per individual may be applied to registration, travel and accommodation (excluding meals) expenses.

Who reviews the applications? Applications will be reviewed by a team of New Hampshire Housing staff for action by the Executive Director.

How do I apply? Please mail a letter of request with the following information to New Hampshire Housing, attn. Jane Law, P.O. Box 5087, Manchester, NH 03108:

  • Outline of training agenda
  • Why the training is needed
  • Brief organization bio
  • Bios of individuals requesting funding to attend the training and why they are attending
  • Training budget breakdown

Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
