Nearly $200,000 in Housing Counseling Funds Awarded to New Hampshire Housing

Grant from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to be distributed across the state

The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development recently awarded nearly $200,000 in housing counseling funding to New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority through a Comprehensive Housing Counseling Program Grant. New Hampshire Housing will oversee administration of this grant and distribute funding to the following agencies: Affordable Housing Education and Development (AHEAD) in Littleton; AHEAD Homeownership Center in Colebrook and Berlin; Laconia Area Community Land Trust in Laconia; NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire in Manchester and Nashua; NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire at CATCH Neighborhood Housing in Concord; The Housing Partnership in Portsmouth; and The Way Home in Manchester. New Hampshire Housing will also use a portion of the funds for its own homeownership education efforts.

The funding will be used for a variety of efforts at these agencies, including pre-purchase homebuyer education workshops and counseling; financial literacy workshops; home equity conversion mortgage (HECM) counseling; post-purchase financial management and budgeting counseling; and rental counseling.

“Part of New Hampshire Housing’s mission is to support sustainable, successful homeownership,” said Dean Christon, Executive Director of New Hampshire Housing. “Homebuyers succeed when they have resources to learn about the responsibilities of homeownership and better understand the home buying process. This grant will help agencies provide the services homebuyers need to decide if homeownership is right for them, and to give them the financial tools they need to manage that purchase.”
