Homebuyer Tax Credit Fees Waived for Veterans and Active Duty Military

New Hampshire Housing program can save first-time homebuyers up to $2,000 a year

Veterans and active duty service members who are buying their first home have the opportunity to access significant tax savings at a lower cost. New Hampshire Housing is offering fee waivers and discounts for veterans and active duty service members for the Homebuyer Tax Credit as a thank you for their service.

The Homebuyer Tax Credit is a mortgage credit certificate, which allows the holder to receive an annual credit of up to $2,000 toward their federal income taxes for the life of their mortgage loan, as long as they pay interest on the mortgage. In order to qualify for a Homebuyer Tax Credit, you must be a first-time homebuyer, use the home as your primary residence, and meet certain income requirements.

Veterans and active duty service members who are applying for the credit must provide verification of their service, and they will receive a waiver for the issuance fee if they have a New Hampshire Housing loan. Veterans and active duty service members who do not use New Hampshire Housing for their mortgage loan are eligible to receive a discounted issuance fee. Individual lenders may have their own processing fees related to the Homebuyer Tax Credit.
